Change or lock the screen orientation on iPad

Many apps give you a different view when you rotate iPad.

In the background, iPad displays a Calendar screen in portrait orientation; in the foreground, iPad is rotated and shows the Calendar screen in landscape orientation.

Lock or unlock the screen orientation

You can lock the screen orientation so that it doesn’t change when you rotate iPad.

Open Control Center, then tap the Lock Orientation button.

When the screen orientation is locked, the Lock Orientation icon appears in the status bar.
